    Guys, not everyone is here, I'll position someone as I remember them. For me, the ranking is a very relative thing because comparing vastly different personalities like Davis and Mingus is really reductive. However, as a personal preference as a jazz musician, I tend to prefer Mingus in certain respects.

    I am particularly disturbed by two absences... Sun Ra and Albert Ayler.

    Homogeneous ranking in historical/temporal content, but not when it comes to my tastes. I, for example, would have removed a few names and thrown into the mix people like Cannonball and Freddie Hubbard; however, I won't tell you which saxophonist and which trumpeter I would have removed to make space for those two. :D
