CN shot at the first :) for me this is the only noteworthy album of the year (with a need to listen to Blanck Mass and Pharmakon which seem great to me)

P.S.: nice one from Gomma for Italy

Let's say that it’s always about relative rankings, as they relate to what can actually be listened to, which is definitely greater than what one would like to listen to, depending on personal tastes, of course. I’ll add the Gomma now, but more as part of the listening albums than among the albums of the year, or at least as sufficient.

Regarding Cloud Nothings, I’m happy since I didn’t have a 2016 album back in December. Is that a good omen? Who knows! Anyway, go ahead and make the rankings, it's a bit of inspiration.

No Future No Past - Wasted Years and Psychic Trauma are three tracks I often listen to by Cloud Nothings.

There are also many different things in here. Others, like the latest releases from The National and The War on Drugs, I need to listen to more closely. And there are others on the list for at least a taste!

That is, in the list of things still to listen to, these last ones.

Mogwai - Cloud Nothings - Japandroids - Brand New - I know past albums but not these latest ones. Mac de Marco - Bonobo - Tiger - Le luci della.... I've never listened to. Beach Fossils and Fleet Foxes great albums, good Slowdive, decent Shins and Real Estate. It's nice that there are different things; I also enjoy varying and not getting stuck on the same genre or similar stuff. From Grindcore to Slowcore, Jazz and Progressive, thanks to the site it doesn't make a difference. Post Rock - Punk - Metal. No point in listing them all; I like a bit of everything.

Here, my 2017 listening lacks something more extreme, but the new Converge album will make up for the absence. And then a couple of insights have come from recent reviews. The one from Mogwai is a great comeback, while the one from Brand New is very inspired and mature, to name just two. I've already mentioned the others in comments and reviews.

If I may interject, aside from saying that you do indeed have good taste (but you already knew that dear Taurus)... new Converge album November 3!!!

I did well to take note and you did well to rank them. I'm also listening to the latest War on Drugs; it seems good, although it's not thrilling me as much as this one. Maybe it needs a few more listens.

You're right, the subject is missing. The Brand New. Beautiful album.

I fully agree. It's also very interesting lyrically. They are no longer the Brand New of the early albums, but hats off to them.

They have grown older. Less youthful anger, more disillusionment.

Brand New and Beach Fossils, two super albums. I really like the list you made. 2017 was splendid for my tastes and there are still many albums I haven't listened to. Mogwai keeps rising for me; I've been taking more and more time with them.

The Mogwai album has grown on me a lot, but it doesn’t really surprise me since it's a very heterogeneous record and requires something more than one or two distracted listens while doing something completely different. Beach Fossils have created the perfect clean indie-pop album for me; I could care less that it’s not experimental or anything. I see you’ve really dived deeper into it than I have, in fact, I had promised myself to take some inspiration from it.

It's still difficult to create a classic that reflects an exact sequence. For me, clearly, the more a record convinces me, the more I dedicate listens to it over the medium to long term, the more it’s worth. The compulsive listens of a few days to an album, only to then stash it away quickly after a week, for me, count for little.

Regarding the recoveries, I'm missing two "extreme" albums that I want to listen to: first up, Converge, and then the one by Nokturnal Mortum.
