One of the best albums in progressive metal and metal in general. Dream Theater (this is their 2nd album) after "When Dream And Day Unite" and after the vocalist change (Dominici-LaBrie) have truly created an excellent masterpiece.
It begins with "Pull Me Under" where, after an intro made with the guitar, you enter right into the middle of the song full of Petrucci's typical riffs. The second song is "Another Day": a very light ballad highlighted by a melodious sax solo. Then there's "Take The Time" which takes some excellent funky rhythms, and Surrounded another very slow ballad that, every time I listen to it, I immerse myself in the beautiful and imaginative sound of the New York group.
Then comes "Metropolis Part.1": the most beautiful song of the group and of the album itself which will later be revisited in 1999 with "Scenes From A Memory (Metropolis part. 2)" where it tells the story of Victoria and her murder... But let's not get lost in chatter because right after comes "Under a Glass Moon" a super technical piece (typical of John Petrucci) where about halfway through the song their best solo emerges (also included in the list of the best solos of all time!).
"Wait For Sleep" is a wonderful composition by Kevin Moore (keyboardist of the band from 1989 to 1995) that leaves you "speechless," both for its length (since Dream often makes songs last much longer than usual... And that's why they are my favorite band) and for the melody that the keyboard brings to this track. The last track is "Learning To Live" which also becomes, like the entire album, one of the most requested songs by all fans and turns out to be the longest song made in the two albums composed by the legendary Dream.
ONE OF THE MASTERPIECE ALBUMS OF THE NY BAND AND OF ALL MUSIC (in my opinion) IN GENERAL.
P.S.: I hope the review was appreciated by DeBaser readers.....BYE!!!
This CD is a true masterpiece that will go down in history as one of the best progressive CDs.
Forget about those who tell you they’re only technique and no substance!
How did they manage to release such a beautiful collection of songs?!?
With this CD, the American band has confirmed its domination in the world of progressive metal!!
"You have to listen to this music not with your ears but with your heart."
"In my opinion, they are the best existing band and nothing will change my mind."
"Images And Words is an album from which every musician could learn something."
"In this, as in no other Dream Theater record, chilling atmospheres and unmistakably original sounds are created."
Pull Me Under... simply gives you goosebumps.
Take the Time... a sort of programmatic manifesto of what Theater's music is.
