Alaska Records is an independent underground reality rooted in Bologna, a hip hop collective of 5 members including 3 MCs and 2 producers. Arpa, the author of "Calma," a reflection on the self in a relaxed key, dedicates himself to both realms while Diffo and Bal are fresh from two pretty impressive releases: "Corri Avanti" (produced by Horror V) and "The Stampede Trail." A few 16 bars (prod by Arpa and N4Me) and some beats (Horror V, Arpa, and N4Me), in short, a lot of material in just over 4 months.
"Corri Avanti" is a track with a dark, gloomy sound, laying the foundation for a determined voice that feels unsettling in its redundancy (Diffo often repeats "Corri Avanti") and malice. "The Stampede Trail" is a journey within oneself, the most hip hop track of the collective.
"Calma" captures the transition between adolescence and maturity, touching on mother, girlfriend, friends, vices, sex, and much more. An alternative key straddling Trap, Indie, and pure Rap in a landscape dominated by commercial Trap, like a bolt from the blue. more

As if Gong and Devo had met D.A.F or Kraftwerk, all with a dash of Sparks. Electronic silliness elevated to art form. Fantastic...and too forgotten. Ehhh, but you know...they're not exactly ammmerrrricani. more

Seen in Florence the day before yesterday. Smith's voice, charisma, and theatricality are always fresh. He never seems to age! Iconic. And all the musicians are up to the challenge. Now, in 2019, just like back then (the '80s), the Cure are at the top (half-quote). more
