Burzum
As much of an idiot as he is, his ridiculous stuff, etc., I can't say that an album like Filosofem is bad...because, personal tastes aside, it's not...I find the rest of his stuff unbearable, though. more
Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra
another incredible group. "Bum Bum" their latest work. The only one I've heard is an avant-jazz symphony as it might be played in the Andromeda galaxy, if it is even a galaxy. Incredible. Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra - Saturn Hoola Hoop  more
Belbury Poly
incredible group. The latest work "the Belbury Tales" is very hard to describe. In my twisted mind, I see it as an impossible session between the very first Soft Machine, let's say up to Vol. 2, and something similar to Stereolab and the like. But I have a vivid imagination. Just take a listen yourselves! YouTube more
Free -Free
The acoustic pieces ("Lying in the Sunshine", the "boccata d'erba" of "Mouthful of Grass" - for the record: we want to be eloquent...) are the cherry on the cake... for the rest, it's all about the great feeling, because when one of the most raspy Rock voices of all time, a bassist with a unique style, and a guitarist who will never be forgotten are involved... it’s ALWAYS a great feeling. more
Boards of Canada -Lo spot più efficace per un freezer
5 is just the deposit for the final redemption
inestimable for all humanity this treasure chest of sounds we could never see in daylight
because they hide like minds in tunnels at night
and if I am a fan of debaser then call me demented more
Keith Jarrett -Sleeper
Piano is the oxymoron best described here. more
Amen Dunes
Damon McMahon, aka Amen Dunes, is a fascinating artist with two albums to his name, the latest being "Though Donkey Jaw" from 2011, featuring narcotic lo-fi psychedelia that has its roots in folk and a dreamy psych pop with a far-off 60s influence. Amen Dunes - Bedroom Drum (Live-unofficial) I don't know the first album, but if it’s at this level, Amen Dunes deserves a lot of attention. more
The High Llamas -Hawaii
Beautiful little (oh my, not little, since it's a double) chamber pop record. Teetering between the still fairly sober Brian Wilson of Pet Sounds and the one who went off the rails with the aborted Smile. Relaxing. more
Darkthrone -A Blaze In The Northern Sky
I loved it on CD. When I found the vinyl and listened to it, my life changed. Raw, brutal, and cold. Like Darkthrone in their true essence, pure, icy black. Essential. more
Guns N' Roses -Use Your Illusion I
Among the two UYIs, this one is definitely my favorite.
Why? Three reasons: Dust 'N Bones, Bad Obsession, and November Rain. Call me predictable, but November Rain is a masterpiece. On its own, though, it isn't enough to make the album win.
Then there’s Bad Obsession, which is one of the absolute best songs by Guns, and Dust 'N Bones, a wonder in its purest form. more
Duff McKagan -Believe In Me
Duff gives it a try. In some songs he succeeds, in others he fails, but as a first work, Duff shows a certain something that, in the end, at least for me, is convincing. Unripe, but with a certain pleasant aftertaste. more
Tygers of Pan Tang
Still around in 2013, speechless... the vote is a reward for consistency, but can we at least say that this has now heavily worn us out, or should we use more respect? If you prefer, I can say it more politely: what was once NWOBHM is now OLD WAVE - very, very old... more
Richie Kotzen
An underrated guitarist, with monstrous technique, a frighteningly good feel, a great voice, and a diverse range of genres. I recommend the instrumentals "Electric Joy," "The Inner Galactic Fusion Experience," and the projects with Greg Howe to get closer to his eclectic "guitar playing," as well as "Mother Head's Family Reunion," "Wave of Emotion," "Get Up," "Into the Black," "Peace Sign," and the Winery Dogs for his approach to song structure and his best vocal performances. more
King Crimson
Innovative, seminal, visionary. more
Genesis
One of the best bands of the '70s. Actually, of all time. more
