THE REVIEW

How wonderful when Capossela starts...

It's another dimension that materializes around the heart...that deeply digs into the soul and takes you there...where music can still be romantic sentiment, expressive sweetness, sophistication, raw reality and drama, playfulness, toys, clowns, monsters, enchantments, humility, illusion, and above all magic.

The doubt over the state of solitude and human introspection seem to be, on one hand, the central themes of this immense "Ovunque proteggi," while on the other (perhaps Spessotto's side), starting from the cover art, one intuits the desire to express the multiple facets of the personalities of its characters who identify with himself...that self who is effectively the only one who can truly "protect" himself. It seems, therefore, that there is a connection between this work, the previous one, and the next. Here, the light of "Canzoni a manovella" is considerably questioned, analyzed, and fragmented until it's overshadowed but still kept there as a glimmer...a glimmer that is definitively abandoned to plunge into the depths of full awareness of being "Alone" with the last work.

The greatness of Vinicio lies in his capacity as a creator; let me explain better...

He manages to create an atmosphere around each song that could be compared, without too much exaggeration, to a treasure chest sought by pirates for more than thirteen millennia...it's as if every song is enveloped in an aura of classicism, beauty, and eternal epic quality...and this is a sensation that matures over time, at least after the fifth full listen.

It's as if every piece of the sonic and poetic puzzle gradually takes shape over the days and even more over the months and the years. Every track is contained within its little treasure chest, and before discovering its real value, that is, before the soul is definitively enlightened by this eternal perfection, the listener needs to become mature and patient.

This is a very important album musically for our country and emotionally for every individual with even a minimum of sensitivity towards art. If not everything is there, there is a lot...from the chaotic and allusive "Brucia Troia" where one hears strong Balkan and multiethnic flavors, to the essential "Dalla parte di spessotto" discussion with the sympathetic human malice "We are on Spessotto's side... and if it doesn't work, it means it's broken... if you don't understand it, then break it", passing through the executioner's madness of "Al Colosseo"; the ballad for deckhands and sailors who slobber over each other "Cha cha cha della medusa"...one finds themselves in the midst of an orchestral hymn of exquisite refinement and disenchantment, indeed "Uomo vivo inno alla gioia", ending getting lost in the arms of an appropriate and compelling colorful and absurd waltz: "Nel blu", culminating in the poignant perfection of "Dove siamo rimasti a terra Nutless" schizophrenic dialogue with cold melancholy for the past, defeated by the return of veterans to the field; there's also room for the true and passionate love of "Pena de l'alma" in my opinion along with the previous one of the most moments of genius and perfection in the entire album...it continues with a strong reflection on shipwrecked in "Lanterne rosse" and in the beautiful recitative in De André style "La S.S dei naufragati" to conclude and rewind and hold tight that famous glimmer of light in the very sweet "Ovunque proteggi" which when it starts gives me the same beautiful feeling of "Sultan of Swing" as if everything were resolved like this...without a reason.

The interpretation of the singing is overwhelming and passionate every moment, strongly evocative and dazed, funny and deep...I would say almost perfect...

It is all too easy to define this album as one of the best ever produced here in Italy. It is worth not only listening to it but making it your own, bringing it into the heart, treasure chest by treasure chest with the awareness that once opened all of them, you can finally have a tiny idea of the madness and complexity that distinguish us from chimpanzees.

Ovunque Proteggi is an epic album in epic proportions; it sometimes approaches, in a cryptic way, some completely unusual biblical and mythological themes.

'Ovunque Proteggi' disappoints at first listen but could gradually reward the listener significantly, introducing them to the new Capossela.

By Basettoni1

"Ovunque Proteggi is an album that isn’t beautiful, but it becomes so, becomes splendid, perfect: a sound gallery that contains the entire emotional climax of the human soul."

"Once you manage to tame the ear, the 'Inno alla gioia' truly expresses joy, pure joy, becomes the most vital band piece you have ever listened to."
