The Sisters of Mercy are an English rock band formed in Leeds in 1980, led by Andrew Eldritch. Their influential work in gothic rock and post-punk includes First and Last and Always (1985), Floodland (1987) and Vision Thing (1990).

Formed in Leeds in 1980; fronted by Andrew Eldritch (Andrew William Harvey Taylor). Doktor Avalanche is the band's drum machine. Patricia Morrison is credited as bassist on Floodland in the reviews. Floodland and Vision Thing are frequently discussed in the site's reviews; Jim Steinman is mentioned in reviews in connection with production.

DeBaser's reviews celebrate The Sisters of Mercy as a central English gothic/post-punk act. Reviews highlight landmark albums (First And Last And Always, Floodland) and Andrew Eldritch's cavernous vocals. Floodland is frequently praised for its epic, monumental choruses; Vision Thing is noted for a tougher rock turn. The site's coverage mixes devotion, close reading of lyrics, and varied opinions on later compilations.

For:Fans of gothic rock, post-punk and 1980s British alternative music; readers interested in lyrical and atmospheric album analysis.

Floodland was born in 1987 and although the noblest feeling might seem the impetuous bass line of Lucretia My Reflection, both the videoclips and the music are a whirlwind of sound ranging from British gothic rock to the most teased-up darkwave.

More than a review, this is an act of unconditional devotion (very personal, of course…), which alone could motivate the writing of these few lines about an album that in some parts is now more than a quarter-century old.
