It must have been an interesting experience for the hopeful young Swedes who go by the name Sonic Syndicate.
Formed in 2002 by the three Sjunnesson brothers (Richard, Roger, and Robin), they evolved into a sextet (perhaps a bit exaggerated...), released a debut album ("Eden Fire" for the tiny Pivotal Rockordings), and then decided to try their luck. Specifically, they entered a contest organized by Nuclear Blast; 1500 participants, only one winner. That was Sonic Syndicate. A remarkable achievement, no doubt about it, which secured them the opportunity to release the new "Only Inhuman" with the German label.
And now here they are, ready to make a name for themselves, or at least that's what they hope. Honestly, I was hoping for something different (not necessarily better), rather than the usual, for current standards, mix of modern metal, gothic arrangements, melodic metalcore, and extreme/catchy Scandinavian influences, which are obvious in this case.
On the other hand, it must be said that they have a certain level of commercial appeal, which could help them win over the public's tastes, but they should have opted for a less predictable sound!
It's indeed hard to resist the charge of songs like "Afterneath" or "Denied," not to mention the super catchy cover of T.A.T.U’s "All About Us."
If you’re not bothered by the plastic that permeates the audio content, well... give this second work of Sonic Syndicate a chance.
