Hello everyone. This is my first review on this site and I would like to start with the album Innuendo by the very famous Queen. Before starting with the album review, I would like to jot down some adjectives about the 4 members of the band.
Freddie Mercury: No. 1 - charismatic - genius - force of nature - irreplaceable (together with Mozart the greatest artist) Brian May: great - ingenious - clever - irreplaceable (in Queen) Roger Taylor: talented - gritty - percussionist - not irreplaceable John Deacon: talented - intelligent - reserved - not irreplaceable now, let's move on to the review:
Innuendo was released in 1991 and is to this day the last authentic album of the band. It is now almost universally known that the songs on this album were written just a few months before Freddie's death, and despite his body being in shambles due to AIDS, his voice doesn't seem in the least affected by the gravely serious illness, but quite the opposite. . . Almost every lyric was influenced by the situation Freddie was going through, making the album very melancholic, and consequently moving. After this brief introduction, I will proceed with the review of each single track: Innuendo: a song dedicated to hope, refined and delicate in the first part, then transforming after the extraordinary and famous solo (written but not played by May) into a purely rock finale. In my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful songs by Queen, on the wave of Bohemian R.
I'm Going Slightly Mad: truly an ironic song but absolutely genius both in the lyrics and in Freddie's performance, where he declares to the world that he's mad! The whole song is sung in very low tones. May's interventions on guitar are excellent. Headlong: a very frantic and much more rock song than the previous ones, perhaps less qualitatively excellent than the previous ones, but very difficult to sing and its frenzy demonstrates Freddie being in top vocal shape. I Can't Live With You: a song between pop and rock, the lyrics once again are about hope, but in terms of love. a good song and nothing more. Don't Try So Hard: a beautiful song, very slow, very sweet, very surreal. Freddie's interpretation is once again masterful. The tones of the song are almost always in "low falsetto" except for some exceptional high notes. Ride The Wild Wind: a song that somewhat reflects I Can't Live With You but in lower tones. nice song, nothing more. All God's People: a gospel-like song, in a pop rock version. These Are The Days Of Our Lives: extraordinarily moving song both in music, voice, and lyrics. May's solo is spine-chilling. Freddie's performance is Oscar-worthy. In my opinion, among the five most beautiful songs of all time. Freddie's goodbye at the end of the track is worth the entire cost of the album. Delilah: song-dedication to one of his many cats, perhaps underrated, but it's a great song in high tones. The Hitman: a rock song, the hardest of the album, personally not my favorite, but it's just a matter of taste. Bijou: it's all a guitar solo by May, really very edgy. The Show Must Go On: a song known by everyone, I believe. Any comment would be unnecessary.
In conclusion, I believe Innuendo is definitely the most beautiful Queen album since the 80s onwards, thanks to the usual rock and pop mixture that the group has always made, but never managed to blend the two genres so well as to make them almost homogeneous. Thanks until next time. . .
