I wasn't born yet in 1973 when an LP was released that would open up new paths and new horizons in music. A revolution. It is one of those albums that has a place of honor in the history of music. The Dark Side Of The Moon marked the international recognition of Pink Floyd, it was first and foremost an enormous commercial success, it is the second best-selling album in history (25 million copies), after Michael Jackson's Thriller.
From the cover alone, you can tell that this album marks a new era. In a time, the 70s, when album covers were very full, heavy, and almost baroque in a certain sense (see the covers of George Clinton, The Parliament, etc.), the cover of The Dark Side Of The Moon is very simple. Essential. A prism crossed by a ray of light that decomposes (ehm... here we touch on the scientific branch... I apologize for any errors). Something is changing. The album is composed of a single track (even though on CDs they split it into 9 tracks for commercial reasons), it's a continuum, a project with a beginning and an end, a journey of 42 minutes 52 seconds. It would be a crime to listen to the album in pieces. Like any art, music requires concessions and devotion; you don't listen to The Dark Side Of The Moon like you eat a sandwich in a hurry during a lunch break.
The lyrics do not claim to be particularly philosophical. They talk about everyday details that are not particularly impressive, but that take on a whole other dimension with the sound of Pink Floyd. It seems abstract to talk about "sound," but that's precisely what characterizes this group, a unique, engaging sound. The texture of the music is rich in detail, and at the same time light, smooth, and it creates an environment, an atmosphere around you. Perhaps it's not the most beautiful Pink Floyd album, but it's certainly the one that represents them best, and it's absolutely essential for every person who loves music to have it at home.
THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON is one of the top 5 most important albums in rock history.
An album that, more than an album, is undoubtedly a work of art in rock.
Madness, suffocation, excitement, fear, relaxation, adrenaline, and pleasure blend almost imperceptibly in this thing called an "album".
I gave this album 0 because 5 is too little.
I take my mind to distant places. And I feel the madness, finally.
Don’t tell me anymore that I am sane, the dark side of the moon changes everyone.
An album is great when it belongs to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, or the Doors.
Amidst soft and unsettling tones, the journey unfolds of The Dark Side Of The Moon, which still ranks among the best-selling albums, 33 years later.
Can’t you hear it’s ancient stuff from hippies and stylistically outdated?
Those 4-minute solos made with 5 notes are ridiculous, which denotes a characteristic of the band: they don’t know how to play...
