THE REVIEW

If I had to make a ranking of the most important groups in my nearly (soon-to-be) 50 years, it would be this: in first place, the Beatles, because I heard them when I was very young in the early 60s, from the small radios I carried around, and from the radio program Luttazzi's "hit parade" on Saturdays at 1:00 PM, I believe. Then the Led Zeppelin, and the Pink Floyd, of which I still remember the first time I heard "The Dark Side" at a friend's house and was amazed by such beauty, and it was one of the first LPs I bought.

Throughout these years, I've collected everything collectible of the three groups mentioned: the record I want to talk to you about is a bootleg recorded with studio-quality audio, from a concert Floyd held in London on October 13, 1971, at the Paris Theatre. It includes over 70 minutes of live music with rare and unique pieces performed live, and it starts with "Embryo" (never officially released on records), one of the few times it was played live with Gilmour and Mason immediately setting the record straight. The bootleg continues, as I was telling you, with thrilling pieces like "Green is the Colour" (introduced by Waters' voice, I believe) "Careful with the Axe Eugene," "Let There Be More Light" (which starts with a frightening bass line, I think), “Murderistic Woman,” “Point Me at the Sky,” “The Narrow Way,” “Julia Dream,” “A Saucerful of Secrets” with a chilling start (with a gong played by Waters), continues with “One of These Days” and especially a "Echoes," which I believe is unique in Pink's live performances, lasting a whopping 22 minutes, in which the band delivers, in my opinion, an extraordinary performance at the levels of "Live at Pompeii," held about a year later, with final applause from the lucky ones who attended that concert.

The record was recorded by Dick Adams and P. Moll, sound engineer Paul Wolf. I don't think you can find it on the mule; I bought it from Nannucci (www.nannucci.it) many years ago. It is perhaps the Pink record I listened to the most over the years; for those interested, contact me privately, and we will find a way... until next time.
