Why not remember her?
She was eighty-seven years old, and she passed away on January 1st of this year. Joan Christian, under the pseudonym of Nora Orlandi, born in Voghera and yet unknown to many of her fellow townsfolk, was a fantastic musician (she played piano and violin since she was little) and a singer, both classical and jazz. With five diplomas from the Conservatory of Genoa, she dedicated herself to composing soundtracks after a brief career as a teacher.
Between the 1960s and 1980s, she formed a choir (the famous 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi) with which she accompanied dozens of light music songs, variety show themes composed by her, and wrote many children’s songs. Above all, she signed many pieces for films of various genres such as thrillers, spaghetti westerns, police dramas, and animated cartoons. While remaining in the shadows compared to her male colleagues like Morricone, Piccioni, Micalizzi, Ortolani, and others, she collaborated with various Italian artists including Adriano Celentano, Domenico Modugno, Gianni Morandi, Gino Paoli, Mia Martini, Mina, Lucio Battisti, and Lucio Dalla.
