The voiceover of Soldier Joker (Matthew Avery Modine) as he returns to the camp with the patrol tells us: "My thoughts drift again to erect nipples, nocturnal emissions, the wet dreams of Mary-Jane-Figa-Rotta, the fantasies of the immense fuck on the way home. I’m really glad to be alive, whole and about to be discharged... Sure, I live in a shithole of a world, that’s true, but I’m alive... and I’m not afraid anymore."
