One of the realizations of this 2022, among others, has been for me that Lanegan is gone and I will not experience any more of his written or sung words. In 1999, he released a cover album that includes tracks like this one, originally sung by Bobby Bland. Evidently, it was an important song for Mark Lanegan, but in general, the idea that his music has "taken care of you," as romanticized as it may be, is palpable in the simple fact that this artist is missed and will be missed.
