Reigning Sound - Can't Hold On [2011]
Aside from Mick Collins, another beautiful bastard Devil-Wizard of the genre is Greg - Oblivians - Cartwright. Legendary with the Oblivians, immense with the Compulsive Gamblers, and superb with this other magnificent creation of his.
With Too Much Guitar you think, “okay, he made the masterpiece album with his Dominant Sound,” and instead this damn bastard does what?! He makes you wait five years and then throws a wonderful album at you, a "moody & melancholic" side - his words - of the Oblivians sound. You can't define it... it takes you back to your adolescence with sounds full of sixties vibes, R&B, soul but also steeped in that traditional American sound...
And with that bastard voice, flirtatious... to hell with the 17 octaves of the “great singer” that I couldn't care less about... that animates this splendid bastard...
AlbumONE... if you haven't figured it out yet... But the beauty is that this guy creates an album like this putting together Bitols, Van Morrison, Arthur Lee, Graham Parker, and even Bob Dylan... after being one of the most insane iconoclasts of "Classic" Rock... you say he has no class, talent, nobility?! Naaaaaaaaaaa... and even WAITS... come on...
