Yesterday marked the 76th birthday of English drummer Aynsley Dunbar (Liverpool, January 10, 1946).
He collaborated with John Mayall, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Jeff Beck, and was also a part of "Journey," "Whitesnake," and "Jefferson Starship," in addition to having his own band, "Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation," towards the end of the '60s.
He auditioned to play with Jimi Hendrix, alongside Mitch Mitchell (who later actually joined his band), and it seems that fate (via the flip of a coin) led him to choose Mitchell...
