After the anarchic and revolutionary manifesto of Storia di un impiegato, De Andrè released an album that serves as a bit of a training ground for his translation skills. Indeed, many of the tracks on the lineup are translations of foreign pieces, sometimes taken from French songs (Le passanti, Fila la lana, previously released), from American singer-songwriters such as the great Leonard Cohen (Suzanne, Giovanna D'Arco) and the legendary Bob Dylan (the lengthy Via della povertà). Within all this, there are also a few small gems scattered from the distant past: above all stands out the ballad of blind love, a tragicomic story of a sickly love, and Canzone dell'amore perduto, a track highly appreciated by our listeners. Canzoni was born to be a watershed album between a conceptually strong album and a darker, more hermetic one, yet it still offers many gems throughout its passage.
Meticulous rating: 8 and a half
