In the face of an unprecedented health crisis that has rightly suspended constitutional freedoms to save lives, I reevaluate our battered system, where the fragrance of that personal freedom still lingers, missing like air. In light of its current denial, we better understand what it means to be, even if imperfectly, free. Hoping to soon return to mingling our flesh, may the exception truly remain an exception, as we carry the torch for those grandparents who today are so cruelly most affected.
