Record La-bel!
(The record labels that don’t get the attention they deserve)
[03] Lovepump United
Lovepump United is an independent record label based in the United States, founded in 2004 by Jake Friedman and Mookie Singerman, two students from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie (does that ring a bell @[Stanlio]?!). The label is headquartered in New York City and has a relatively small catalog (still just 45 releases so far) mainly oriented towards experimental, hardcore, no-wave, and electro. The first work released by the label was the EP from the aforementioned founders, the duo known (but unknown) by the name Glitter Pals, who closed shop immediately after their debut. Lovepump United caught the first wave of attention in indie music circles with The Lovvers LP from the chaotic noise rock band from Montreal, AIDS Wolf, in January 2006. As for me, I came across the label thanks to that gem Free Gold! by Indian Jewelry from 2008. I continue to keep an eye on it even though production has been stagnant since July 19, 2011, with the last release (I hope so far) Thee Physical by Pictureplane.
