Roman Polański Rajmund Thierry (son of Ryszard Liebling, Polish sculptor and painter of Jewish origin, and Bula Katz-Przedborska) is the Parisian director of this noir masterpiece (a film that received 11 Oscar nominations and seemed to set him on a promising career in Hollywood). It's a detective story set in smoky atmospheres in the "hard boiled" style typical of Raymond Chandler, masterfully acted by Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, and John Houston (and in which Polański himself appears in a cameo playing a gangster {little spoiler...} who, armed with a switchblade, will slice the detective's nose played by Nicholson) and nothing...
