The album "Radyo Siwèl" constitutes a journey of rediscovering one's roots, and Melissa Laveaux is keen to explain its themes and motives; thus, her songs emerge as protest songs against the American occupation of Haiti, which lasted from 1915 to 1934.
A protest that is mostly ironic, a mockery of the American occupier who tries to uproot the island's traditional culture, frightened by the stories circulating about voodoo.
Which, the singer clarifies, is not just about zombies, but is a positive religion that, for example, does not suppress or condemn sexuality but rather promotes it. (quoted from chartasporca.it)
