THE REVIEW

I just don't understand Muse at all. When I heard the first single from this "Black Holes And Revelations", I thought "We've lost them."

Indeed, because, even if the previous albums hadn't thrilled me (also because this isn't my genre), they are still an "honest" trio. To be sure of the band's complete failure, I thought it best to download the album and... thankfully appearances can be deceiving.

After listening to it all, I was bewildered: "Supermassive Black Hole" is the worst track on the album, and what do they do? They release it as the first single. The album starts with "Take A Bow", an electronically derived track that starts quietly before exploding at the end; which had me thinking "yes, a little better, but still insufficient".
It continues with "Starlight", an "dry" and linear track, which appears solid and successful. "Supermassive Black Hole" I listen to only to find something positive in it, but I just can't. The energetic "Map Of The Problematique" is far too synthy, with techno nuances, not the best track of the lot. It is followed by the calm and short "Soldier’s Poem", accompanied by acoustic guitar and a small choir at the end.

"Invincible" is one of the best tracks on the album: the rhythm builds up, exploding in the finale with solos and a frenzied drum. "Assassin" is somewhat reminiscent of "Supermassive Black Hole", but appears less electronic and more "concrete". It continues with the most rock track on the album: "Exo-Politics", which has no electronic nuances but has a simple and effective pattern. "City Of Delusion" is a long and frantic song, but it doesn't seem exciting. "Hoodoo" alternates moments of calm with moments of frenzy. The final track, "Knights of Cydonia", is an excellent piece, the best of the album: long, fast, with an "Epic" streak.

In conclusion, this is a good album, certainly not a masterpiece, but still noteworthy, and Muse, who might not be destined to make history, confirm themselves to be a solid rock band.

Black Holes And Revelations may cost Muse the loss of a few fans, but when you truly take artistic risks, as in this case, it seems that the game is worth the candle.

The fourth track, 'Map Of The Problematique,' is the first bullseye of Black Holes And Revelations thanks to a perfect blend of electronic and rock.

It’s really stuff to break the windows, to make cats screech, to be like nails on a chalkboard.

Maybe now with this breath of noise independence, the Miuz won’t spend every minute on MTV.

"Our Hopes And Expectations - Finally, after three years, the long-awaited fourth chapter of the three from Devon takes shape."

"The Muse are certainly no longer the ones of 'Showbiz' but courageously move forward to quench their thirst for new experimentation."

 The Muse do not disappoint.

You must pay for your crimes against the earth.

"Those distorted guitars grabbed me and dragged me into oblivion, while the falsetto singing enchanted me like a siren."

"A gem that paves the way for a new type of music, a mix of electronic, rock, metal, and... spacecrafts."
