Moacir Santos

Moacir Santos (1926–2006) was a Brazilian composer, arranger, bandleader, and saxophonist renowned for harmonic innovation. Born in Pernambuco, he moved to Rio de Janeiro in the 1940s and became the first Black conductor at Radio Nacional. In 1967 he relocated to the United States, recording albums for Blue Note and Discovery, and he taught and influenced musicians including Baden Powell, Paulo Moura, JoĂŁo Donato, Nara LeĂŁo, Roberto Menescal, and SĂ©rgio Mendes.
