The Profile

Mansun were a British alternative rock band from Chester, active from 1995 to 2003. Their debut, Attack of the Grey Lantern, topped the UK chart in 1997, and the follow-up Six became a cult favorite for its ambitious, genre-blending approach.

Formed in Chester, England; led by singer-songwriter Paul Draper. Best-known single is Wide Open Space. Studio albums include Attack of the Grey Lantern (1997), Six (1998), and Little Kix (2000). Posthumous compilation Kleptomania was released in 2004.

Two enthusiastic DeBaser reviews dive into Mansun’s debut Attack of the Grey Lantern and the audacious follow-up Six. The first spotlights the debut’s UK chart-topping impact and theatrical, dandy-tinged Britpop. The second celebrates Six as a sprawling, genre-warping concept collage mixing prog, punk, classical, and opera. Together they frame Mansun as ambitious outliers of late-’90s Britpop with enduring cult appeal.
