Ssssst!... Silence... We fly...

A man closed in on himself, shy, not inclined to socialize, yet...
Yet open to experimentation, as was evident in "Non è Francesca", not completely convinced of the recordings and the final mixing, he decided to insert a reverse guitar towards the end of the track. Because Lucio Battisti is certainly intimate melody, but he is also the other side of the coin. Perfectly blended, harmonious and suave, "Anima Latina" is a progressive album that only the language in which it is sung makes it "Italian". Because with this album Lucio Battisti decides to make a decisive change in his way of composing music, and he tells you in "Anonimo", when at the end of the track he quotes himself by distorting "I Giardini Di Marzo", speeding it up, making it LOUNGE; it almost seems as if he's saying: "do you remember the good old times? Well, they are indeed in the past. But here I am still."

Innovations and experiments that will gradually lead him to compose albums that border on coldness and obsessiveness for details, as would definitively happen during the collaboration period with Panella.
But "Anima Latina" is anything but a cold work. It is sun, it is freshness, it is the joy of novelty, it is a smile. It almost seems you can see him, Battisti, during the recordings of "Due Mondi", laughing at his vocal performances at the end of the track. An atmosphere of Brazilian happiness, but also "saudade", melancholic... but there is no exact word to translate the term "saudade". It is a condition, inherent in the Brazilian people. Yet Battisti portrays it perfectly, assimilates it, makes it his own. "Saudade" is the homonymous track "Anima Latina"... "saudade" is "La nuova America".
Lucio Battisti did not let himself be overwhelmed by repetitive obsession, which would have certainly led him to compose in a comfortable situation, surely producing innovative dishes but always tied to the same structure.
And then? Then "Anima Latina".

A man closed in on himself, shy, not inclined to socialize, yet...
"my mind is a sail
bow towards other people.
Wind, magical current..."

(Due Mondi)
