DeBaser reviews praise Live's 90s peak (Throwing Copper) and Ed Kowalczyk's vocal/spiritual songwriting. Early albums are seen as vital and earnest; later releases receive mixed notices for softer production and uneven songwriting. Reviewers repeatedly note influences from REM, Pearl Jam and folk-rock elements.

For:Fans of 1990s alternative rock and vocal-driven, spiritual-leaning songwriting.

That of the Live is a composed, meditated fury dictated by a deep sense of spirituality, or in any case, by a constant search for it.
