Hallelujah! A great comeback for Joe Perrino and the Mellowtones - not to be confused with Joe Perrino & the Mellotones, an obscure sixties band in which Frank Zappa also played - with a new 45 rpm single where the explosive “Magical Dangerous Journey” and the lysergic “Twilight” ideally connect to that mid-eighties neo-psychedelic wave that gifted many of us with an unforgettable season that allowed us to rediscover the darker sound of garage rock bands like Music Machine, Chocolate Watchband, and Tomorrow, just to name a few.
For those who don't know, Joe Perrino And The Mellowtones are an Italian rock group formed in Cagliari back in 1984, riding the wave of the mid-eighties garage revival period during which their first records saw the light with the single EP "Love the Colours" in 1986 on High Rise and the subsequent album "Rane'n'Roll" in 1988 on IRA.
In between these two initial productions, the band also participated in the RAI broadcast "Sanremo Rock" with the track "Mi Sento Felice."
Afterward, the band dissolved only to reform in the mid-'90s to promote the release of a new self-titled album, which in fact collected all the early tracks that had initially been distributed by the band on cassette.
Joe Perrino and the Mellowtones re-emerge powerfully for a second time from the darkest underground with their sharp guitars and the sleek and elegant sounds of the Farfisa organ, reminiscent of bands like Miracle Workers and Unclaimed, and, despite always clashing with an adverse history that baptized them from the outset as born losers, they are to be considered the best garage rock band that Sardinia has ever generated.
The record, released on For Monsters Records with a splendid color cover by the esteemed contemporary artist Andrea Nurcis, was mastered by Peter Doell at AfterMaster Studios in Hollywood. The ultra-limited vinyl, to the delight of collectors, was printed in various color variants from aqua blue to transparent red, including the classic black vinyl version and a bottle green yellow vinyl.
