The Job For a Cowboy, also known by the "nickname" JFAC, are a Deathcore band from Arizona. Formed in 2004, the band began playing in small local venues in a couple of towns lost in the predominantly desert-like American state, and soon their piercing riffs, breakdowns at the edge of humanity, and an almost rhythmic series repetition of Pig Squeals alternated with Screaming and growling by singer Johnny Davy created a significant reputation for the Arizonian quintet.

After a while, JFAC decided to take the big step, due to the fact that Deathcore in America is also thriving in these years with the emergence of bands like Caliban, The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, and co. The Job send their demo around the world and King of the Monsters decided to launch their first EP, which is Doom.

In my humble opinion, Doom is the most original work among the two CDs by Job for a Cowboy. Doom immediately presents itself with a classic composition, an intro ("Catharsis for the Buried") lasting 55 seconds where the only thing you can distinctly hear is a desperate, frustrated man exclaiming "LET ME OUT!" but it is almost incomprehensible.

This intro alone already makes one understand what we are going to encounter. This JFAC CD will take us on a one-way journey inward; the intro has something malevolent and decadent, it seems almost shouted by a soul emanating from the depths of our heart, and so it happens, the first actual track is perhaps one of the more complex works (at least vocally speaking) by Job For a Cowboy, which is "Entombment Of A Machine". "Entombment Of A Machine" is definitely a must-listen for deathcore enthusiasts, rich in breakdowns and passages that in my opinion can be described as "tempting".

The third track, "Relinquished", is definitely a masterpiece for lovers of pigsqueal, followed, in my opinion, only by "Welcome to Sludge City" by "Annotation Of An Autopsy". This track is also instrumentally accompanied by decisive traits, with sharp guitar hits, the drums hit hard with no pause... four minutes of pure massacre and without a break!

The fourth track plunges us even deeper into our "infernal journey" launched by the tracks, "Knee Deep" leaves no room, screams saturate the song mercilessly until our ears are freed by a breakdown that will almost certainly implode in a scream of relief.

We thus reach without much difficulty the fifth track of this short yet challenging CD from a listening perspective. The fifth track, "The Rising Tide" follows the style of the previous ones, although compared to songs like "Knee Deep" and "Entombment Of A Machine" it proves to be perhaps a more harmonious, slower work; our descent into hell ended with "Knee Deep", now it’s time to ascend, but without abruptly exiting this "journey" full of pain and effort.

The last track of the original EP, "Suspended By The Throat", is decidedly less incisive than the others, also in anticipation of the exit and the end of our inner journey.

I highly recommend listening to this CD to all those who love the genre, not only musically but also spiritually speaking. Job For A Cowboy managed to create an atmosphere of inner confidence, a work born of different thoughts, of a musical evolution. In conclusion, I would like to compare JFAC both in style and message to Van Gogh: determined, incisive, and often violent strokes hide great meanings in reality.

Tracklist Lyrics Samples and Videos

01   Catharsis for the Buried (intro) (00:55)

02   Entombment of a Machine (04:07)

It bleeds! It breathes!

What stands before us, is not a machine
It breathes, it will bleed and it will dream!

[Scream]

Its body is covered in hundreds of wires.
and a mouth that attempts to speak, it attempts to lie
Only murmurs, collapse from its jaws.

And a world, a world without,
A world without you.

but I rise. the dead will pride
it breathes, beyond this life,

so sleep, sleep among us, hesitate no more

En....tomb-men....of-a-ma...chine (entombment of a machine)
We kneel and we plead for no mourning ahead of us,
With only delayed movements, from its figure, we all begin to strain.

Entombment of a machine
Entombment of a machine

What stands before us is not a machine
What stands before us is not a machine

My legs weaken at the site of this damaged program,
This program kept you breathing, it kept you alive.
These circuits diffused once more.

Its body is covered in hundreds of wires.

Only murmurs collapse from its Scream

Entombment of a Machine

But I saw It Die.
Buti saw it die
But I Saw It Dead.
But I saw It Die.
I saw it die
I Watched it DIE!

03   Relinquished (04:49)

04   Knee Deep (04:30)

His landscape has been scorned with death. once a city now
Laid to ash.
A decaying father has left his bastard son with his addictions by his side. chased away, consumed from his fixations, this mans life went down in flames. chased away what he's created,
His hunger grows.
There is no end to this life of fixations, dear father, i'll be waiting, save you a seat in hell, there is no end to this life, life of fixations, dear father, i'll be waiting, i've saved you a seat in hell
He will remain a walking corpse his legs will move forward.
For his addictions itch at his throat only to crave more of the blood he seeks.
For this man only thirsts for blood, the blood of his child 4X
He stands knee deep in the blood of his bastard son.
KNEE, his life of addictions stands by his side 2X
When buried, his tomb will breathe, his hands will rise from his shallow grave begging only for sleep.
Dear father, i'll be waiting, saved you a seat in hell 2X
He stands knee deep in the blood of his bastard son 2X

05   The Rising Tide (04:45)

Blood begins to spill from an open sea, dead bodies churn within the tide.
Attachment.
They drift against a now reddened sea.
These rising waters blush as their bodies decompose.
Dozens of corpses buried at sea, they swim in their graves.
They've proved themselves being too weak for this attachment, the tide rises, the tide breaks.
I hope I have made my last point, for the weak have fallen and I now stand alone.
They now all swim in their own

06   Suspended by the Throat (04:15)

Goodbye,
I'll mend your loss.
Your ashes and embers will soon light up the skies. The carcass of your martyr burns, in the process of punishment. You only have yourself to blame,
so take my hands, for you will be burned before their eyes.
What more does it take to see your death? How much must be done to see you choke.
Let the carcass of the martyr burn in the process of punishment. Suspended by the throat, the knot chokes

07   Entities (demo '05) (03:58)
