When it was released at the end of 2004, music journalists praised it as "a surprising blend of metal and rap." In reality, this is only 50 percent true; the songs are horrid and Linkin Park is already too rap-like, despite having a skilled and likable DJ (Joseph Hahn) and an MC (Mike Shinoda) who doesn't leave any mark and gives himself much more airs than any Fred Durst.

"Collision Course" is the worst musical trash I have ever heard, and the third and final proof (after "Reanimation" and "Live In Texas") of the almost total lack of creativity of Linkin, especially their annoying rapper and producer. Perhaps Shinoda was already thinking of Fort Minor back then, but instead of anticipating them by writing new pieces together with Jay-Z, he melds hits from his "Black Album" with those of his band, resulting in tacky and horrendous remixes.

The tracks? "Big Pimpin'/Papercut," "Numb/Encore," and "IZZO/In The End," pseudo hip hop tracks with arrangements that make you want to puke; the renditions of "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and "99 Problems," which seem like gangsta caricatures of Metallica, Papa Roach, and P.O.D.; and "Jigga What/Faint," useless and sickly compared to "Faint/Toxic" (already online and created by MTV itself), an amusing Linkin Park twist on Britney Spears' single.
