The Italian indie scene seems to be made up of people ready to tear each other apart to appear as innovative and especially as unique as possible. This explains the hordes of little bands that echo each other, sometimes chasing and catching up, and other times drifting apart. In general, the internet has opened the doors of the genre to many bands, and the average level has dropped a bit. But that's okay, you can't stumble upon the Baustelle every other day. Speaking of the Montepulciano band: there's plenty of their sound (and also their attitude) in this album by Il Piccolo Bu, Noi siamo del 2000, right from the first track, titled Imparare, which sounds like a more played version of Fantasma. But it's not the only confirmation.

There is also, and above all, the usual electronic pop that is the dominant theme of the album, both in the single Ho scritto una canzone pop and in Noi siamo del 2000, which not coincidentally are the favorite tracks of early listeners of the band's formation.

But this does not mean that there is no innovation; on the contrary, it is quite openly attempted by the bass openings of Barba, or by the humorous Ultima spiaggia.

But let's get to the note everyone is waiting for: the lyrics. These singers of Italian indie who make fun of the minishowbiz of this genre have come out with a thoughtful and, consequently, mature album, despite it being their first. Il Piccolo Bu points the finger at themselves, engaging in introspective self-criticism, leaving only glimpses to the outside world that are anyway lyrically rendered (the melancholic piece La Borghesia, which draws inspiration from the movie I diari della motocicletta). The result is a band that is fun yet dramatically nihilistic, which you may like or not, but which has already secured two slices of an audience.

"Noi siamo del duemila" pops up with generational reflections and ironic moments like "Le Comunali."

"Noi siamo del 2000" is simply a sly album that will appeal to the same people it mocks and empathizes with.

Noi siamo del 2000 is truly a great piece of work, each track flows pleasantly, without pauses, without breath.

The mixing should be improved, but perhaps it is this very flaw that makes Il Piccolo Bu unique.
