This wonderful album by the great Genesis, if not the best, is the deepest exploration of their musical genre.
Nursery Cryme can be defined as a very unique album; it is an intertwining of rock, of folk as far as the marvelous flute with ethnic melodies is concerned, which runs throughout the album, of classical... it is the greatest musical expansion of Genesis's career, followed by Foxtrot, which I am aware is among your preferences!
Nursery Cryme boasts tracks of the caliber of (the musical box) one of the most significant songs of the group: it begins quite fairy-tale and harmonious, created by the wonderful voice of Peter Gabriel, but shortly after it surprises us with this atmosphere, which shifts from fairy-tale to mystery, to terror... shortly after, there is this direct and overwhelming attack of guitars, which transform the mysterious atmosphere into pure rock; but this track will not cease to amaze us, it will change again, the organ begins to play and Peter Gabriel passionately shouts with all his voice: touch me now, now, now... it ends romantically, leaving us stunned by all of its chords, passages, instruments!
Finally, the album is concluded with (the fountain of salmacis) which opens with that solemn sound created by the keyboard of which Genesis are the pioneers! A very important passage of the song is the sudden break, with that rapid drum acceleration by Phil Collins, followed by a guitar solo that will conclude with a bass solo that leaves us breathless!! What else to say?!! I strongly recommend you purchase this masterpiece: Nursery Cryme!
"The Musical Box... starts with dreamlike, fairy-tale atmospheres that at times almost become a horror story."
"The Fountain Of Salmacis... probably the peak of the album, triumphant and majestic, yet not pompous."
"The Musical Box is a ten-minute piece... capable of moving listeners from the very first listen and engaging anyone in their music."
"Serious lyrics and high-quality music make up a wonderful and complete album, passing into music history through the main door."
What makes this album great is the aura of mystery and fairy tale it exudes.
The ending is hair-raising, with Gabriel's voice first hoarse and hypnotic, and then imperious in a powerful and unstoppable crescendo of incomparable intensity!
Petger Gabriel was a genius, and with Phil Collins and Steve Hackett, they turned progressive rock into a work of art.
"The Musical Box" is one of the most influential rock tracks, blending Victorian storytelling with powerful melodies and dramatic vocals.
A 10-minute mini-opera that combines various musical styles with an ambiguous and theatrical story about childhood and death.
There could not have been a more beautiful and more interesting album than Nursery Cryme, a masterpiece of progressive rock.
