Galaxie 500 were an American trio from Boston (Dean Wareham, Damon Krukowski, Naomi Yang), active from the late 1980s to 1991. They released three studio albums (Today, On Fire, This Is Our Music), recorded Peel Sessions, and are cited as early influences on slowcore and shoegaze. After the breakup Dean Wareham formed Luna; Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang continued as a duo.

Formed in Boston, recorded Peel Sessions for John Peel in 1989, signed to Rough Trade US (which later went bankrupt). Core members: Dean Wareham (guitar/vocals), Damon Krukowski (drums), Naomi Yang (bass). Disbanded in 1991.

DeBaser reviews present Galaxie 500 as a melancholic, intimate trio whose slow, dreamy songs helped define proto-slowcore and influenced shoegaze. Critics praise the band's emotional intensity, minimal arrangements, and haunting vocals. Key albums discussed are Today, On Fire and This Is Our Music. The group formed in Boston in the late 1980s and disbanded in 1991.
