The Faust are one of the most valid Italian bands in the extreme metal underground scene. They formed in the early '90s, around 1992, and the current lineup consists of Aleister on guitar and vocals, Ghiulz on bass, and Gian on drums. The band's sound is aggressive death metal, with some brutal outbursts and various references to bands such as Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse. The riffs are as sharp as razors, ready to dazzle the listener's ears, while the voice is the classic growl (a mix between Cannibal Corpse, Bolt Thrower, and Glenn Benton).
Their first work was "Birth Of Faust," recorded in 1992, while the following year they released their demo. With this demo CD, even though the recording is not good, the group showed their skills and influences with tracks like "Spiritual Invocation For The Act" and "In The Night Of Valpurga".
After quite a few years, Aleister and company come out with this "...And Finally Faust", a concentrate of pure violence, technique, and gloomy atmospheres. The band has matured, has eliminated the little naiveties that were present in the demo, and also the sound is cleaner and heavier. This mini CD features four rather elaborate, powerful, and schizophrenic songs, with many rhythm changes. The sound has remained the same as ten years ago, a deadly, very fast death metal that leaves the listener breathless, thanks to the precise blast beats and tight rhythms. However, it's not a death band that plays the same song with the usual riffs and classic roars UUUUHHH - UUUUAAAHH!!! The Faust range from the famous brutal-grind outbursts to more thought-out and technical pieces (like Death of "Symbolic" and "The Sound Of Perseverance"). "Pig God Dog" is a truly phenomenal track, perhaps the best of the lot, where the band unleashes all its technical and compositional ability. The song features "melodic" lines, so to speak, which are then swept away by sudden angry and fast restarts, performed in a perfect Faust style. A great example of Italian death metal!! With "Raping The Virgin", it starts off immediately with the accelerator, the fairly elaborate riffs support Aleister's dark growl. Subsequently, it continues with the usual heavy rhythmic section led by the powerful blast beat and with some nice guitar solos. "History Losers" has slower rhythms, the drumming is more cadenced, with a sound like Hypocrisy, then gradually increases the speed, managing to create an effective pathos. The growl takes on an almost solemn tone, making the piece very original, while the rest of the song continues with the classic fury. "Immortality" begins with a bone-crushing, hammering start, then evolves into a robust riff that supports the precise blast beat and Aleister's voice.
After these four tracks, the Faust conclude this other mini-CD of pure death metal played with balls!! Alongside them are many valid and original bands, like Dark Secret, Hortus Animae, No More Fear, etc. I got to know the Faust thanks to the episodes on Rock Tv hosted by Aleister on DataBase. Unfortunately, their records are hard to find in stores, and fortunately, there are their official websites where the albums can be purchased... the Faust are one of the current Italian groups that at least deserve to be listened to. Support good music and Italian metal, a genre that still has a lot to say!! BLACK SEEDS OF VENGEANCE!!!!
