ESG

ESG are a South Bronx band formed by sisters Deborah, Renee, Marie, and Valerie Scroggins, often joined by Tito Libran on congas. Their stripped-down, percussion-driven blend of post-punk, funk, and no wave yielded club staples like Moody, You’re No Good, and UFO. Debut LP Come Away With ESG (1983) appeared on 99 Records; a self-titled follow-up arrived in 1991. Their tracks have been widely sampled.
