Gushes of blood also on the cover, signifying the radical (rightful) judgment the artist gives of his country’s terrible foreign policy. Oscillating between ivory anger, dry cynicism, and melancholic decay, this series of ten songs employs the most varied musical languages, dressing with fearful class the corrosive, disorganized, or resigned, deathly lyrics.

I believe this to be, and by far, the best Yes album since 'Going For The One'. Chris Squire’s white Rickenbacker returns strikingly to shake the very fibers of the Yes animal.

Perhaps my favorite cover among the records in my collection: a simple suburban image tinged with infrared, with a beautiful color choice that makes it completely unique. "Gonna Run" features a very successful break and a long swinging jam session finale kicks in, fluid and tasteful, with the clean guitar and also the piano working great over a very competent rhythmic pedal.

Rare Bird is this: delightful "old fashioned" progressive atmospheres, very analog, very "from a turntable" if I may use the image, upon which effective blues melodies are grafted, sung with blood and strong flair. The contrast between the quietly progressive atmospheres created by the organ and the strong and powerful voice of this bassist is precisely the distinctive feature of Rare Bird.

It's worth pulling out the wallet, it's worth it for such a masterpiece, we were not made to live without it. The cynical bassist's lyrics tell of war, money, the sorrow that eternally and tragically exists, dark, a different side of the Moon.

He is the quintessential brilliant guitarist; in all his pieces, sooner or later, he lights up, shines, amazes. It surprises and excites me, but it doesn’t stay with me; it fills my stomach but doesn’t reach my blood.

He is a magnificent clone of Paul Rodgers, making the "phase 3" of Bad Company quite similar to "phase 1". Mick Ralphs is to be appreciated for what he does NOT play, meaning the effectiveness of his playing lies in its essentiality, taste, and clarity of ideas.

Octavarium has a crescendo and a final apotheosis that blows my mind. It’s like the top student who, when questioned, parrot-like recites the books... I’d give him just a passing grade.
