Seine - Nebo (Croatia, 2019)

The Croatian band Seine is one of the most ingenious acts of the moment. Their music is an electrifying sonic journey that challenges every genre and label, filled with sardonic humor and authentic musical expression, straddling the edges of contemporary rock. Seine produces an amorphous sound, blending elements of noise and alternative rock, trip hop, and no wave with sporadic hints of cabaret.

Their music still revolves around the androgynous voice of Ivan. His voice embodies that of a man with swollen eyes, a dark heart, and a turbulent spirit. In his dark and amusing lyrics, he ironically explores the triangle of money, war, and transcendence from a perspective that transcends good and evil.

Lastly, I want to take a moment to appreciate the video for Nebo, a fantastic sequence shot in a very handcrafted stop motion, a rare technique nowadays in a world where everything must necessarily be filtered through a computer screen.

Ahmed Kalaï - Hijaz Kar (Tunisia, 1978)

Born in Tunis in 1936 into a family of musicians, he began studying the oud at the age of five. From the beginning, he was influenced by the oud master Ali Sriti, and in 1948 he started giving oud lessons. He was the director of the Tunisian state radio orchestra and taught at the National Conservatory and the Higher Institute of Musical Studies of Tunis. On the other shore of the Mediterranean, an echo of distant civilizations spreads to our coasts, ready to captivate us.

Los Angeles Negros – El Rey Y Yo (Chile, 1969)

This historic Chilean band, Los Angeles Negros, has had a very prolific musical career, and their fame has spread throughout Latin America and beyond, ultimately recognized worldwide thanks to a sample of one of their songs adopted by the Beastie Boys in The Move. The style of Los Ángeles Negros, defined as Balada rockmántica or Bolero-beat, has set a precedent in South America, influencing many new bands.

Blyck Tchutchi - Mulher é Amiga de Home (Cape Verde, 1983)

The production of Blyck Tchutchi, reggae and funaná, primarily based on songs with romantic nuances, features strongly autobiographical compositions that tell the stories of the migration dramas faced by his fellow countrymen in Portugal. Although he emigrated at a young age to the Lusitanian lands, he has continued to have a strong empathy with his birthplace. Today, he is a living legend in the small African state.

La Funk Mob - Sans Rémission (Deep Inside Mixx)
All the wars The new that advances VS The old at all costs what have they produced? A new group that shares the dust with others, whether physical, the umpteenth Italian eyesore. @[G] this electoral weekend, spend a few promotional words (rhymes haunt me) and some listens for this group, so that it remains a living cell among thousands of ash-white heads dozing off!

FSB - Unisons (Bulgaria, 1978)

FSB is an acronym that stands for FSB (Formation Studio Balkanton). 19 albums, over 3000 concerts, hundreds of nights in nightclubs and rock clubs across Europe, numerous appearances at global rock festivals, dozens of musical programs and television videos. These are just a few statistics from the career of this iconic Bulgarian rock group, formed in 1975, which has become a symbol of Balkan rock music. Their sound is a hybrid between Bulgarian folk music (they often use traditional instruments from their country such as gaida and kaval) and the idiom of progressive rock.

Laza Ristovski - Pulsing Star (Yugoslavia, 1983)

An Alan Parsons of the Balkan Peninsula, Ristovski began his career playing for two historic bands of the former Yugoslavia, such as Smak and Bijelo Dugme, before going solo and embarking on a brilliant career within his country's borders and beyond, collaborating with artists like Alvin Lee (Ten Years After), Richard James Palmer (Supertramp), Falco, and Chris de Burgh. Often compared to Vangelis, he was a virtuoso of electronic keyboards, composing melodies that ranged from progressive ambient to synth rock, passing through electronic blues and the Berlin school. He also composed countless works for TV, cinema, and theater. His career ended too early and abruptly, cut short at just 51 years old due to an illness.

Babla and Kanchan - Aay Mere Dil

I longed for a review that showcased different types of sounds and music. A while ago, the good @[Lao Tze] wonderfully contemplated this (return to us, we are orphans of your fundamental contribution). Following in the master's footsteps, today I embark on this adventure through the sound world, hoping something strikes you as it has struck me.

Babla & Kanchan - Aay Mere Dil (India, 1984)

Laxmichand "Babla" Virji Shah and Kumari Kanchan Dinkarrao Mali-Shah, husband and wife, were an Indian musical duo, particularly active in promoting Chutney and Desi Folk music. They performed together for forty years until Kanchan's death in 2004. Regularly featured in my world music DJ sets, I believe this song has sparked the most curiosity and inquiries about it. A tender funk line moves delightfully throughout the piece, supported by finely distilled soft pop, infused entirely with sweet aromas from the East. India had its dream pop. #worldmusic #india #coeworldmusic
