I don't think we see eye to eye on this. Personally, I prefer the early part of his career, even though the music in his later work is more complex. You say that the beginning of his career is clearly superior to the later part: are you referring to the lyrics or the music? Singer-songwriter music is usually characterized by simple melodies, with essential arrangements and few instruments, and De André's early albums are superb masterpieces of the genre. His shift in artistic direction can be considered, if you will, an innovation in singer-songwriter music or even a departure from it, while still maintaining high standards, especially in Italy, where, along with Battiato, I find that as musicians and composers (and lyricists), there is no one better in the realm of songwriting.

"At the same time, in the final part of his career, he sought new arrangements that deviated somewhat from the initial 'guitar and bon.' <<< It doesn't seem to me that Creuza de ma or Anime salve diverge little; in fact, they are works that are the result of a completely different artistic journey for Faber, in which the music, unlike his earlier works, strives to have the same importance as the lyrics, and it succeeds splendidly. The attribute 'overrated' does not apply at all to De André, whose lyrics have always been praised, and rightly so, while the music has always been assessed objectively — simple and, if desired, as accompaniment in the early albums, more sophisticated and varied later on. Italian singer-songwriter music has never had anything better."

"Get it in your head once and for all: nowadays the music that’s in is commercial pop because kids are growing up with MTV!"<<<<how beautiful it is today!

Thank you for the advice albi6, but if I knew how to play the guitar a bit and had a decent voice, not to mention some time and a few good connections, after an hour of trying to do what Ligabue does I'd be losing my motivation... I would aim for something much greater.

There’s a passage from the homonymous suite that seems like a hyper-acceleration of "Set the controls for the heart of the sun," but don't tell me I'm obsessed!!! :-)

The live recording is also available solo, it's a live performance in Lecco from '74, and it's the same one that's in the box set; only the cover should change if I'm not mistaken.

Well, apart from the last sentence, which has an apocalyptic tone, you're not saying anything wrong, nothing interesting, nothing new… I mean… what do I know… it's still a tribute to De Andrè… but who made you do it???

In fact... I've always heard them mentioned alongside Tangerine Dream but I've never heard anything by them.
