It’s not that the Andean music of Inti Illimani was particularly boring or repetitive at that time (late seventies). Certainly not more so than the calligraphic highs of Mina from her cellar in Lugano, or the sweaty mumbling of Barry White, or the syncopated and tedious reggae of Marley and Tosh.
Jethro Tull Benefit
Voto:
The masterpieces of Jethro Tull are three: Stand Up, Aqualung, and Thick as a Brick. Benefit is weak, no doubt about it, even though it belongs to those magical years for Jethro and rock as a whole. Each of us likely has ideas that go against the "norm," rummaging through the discographies of rock's greats. For example, I prefer the Rush of the '80s to those before and after, or even the Little Feat orphaned of Lowell George, led by Barrere and Payne. But for Jethro, I agree with the majority thought: "Benefit" isn't bad, but it's a misstep compared to what comes before and after.

I will listen.
As for Van Den, compared to Dream Theater, I like the singer much better than LaBrie, and the fact that they don't have all those show-off passages like the Americans do.
What matters, as usual, is the thematic and melodic ability. I hope to find it in this album (as I found it in two or three tracks of "Far Off Grace," for example).
Great review.
Greta Van Fleet The Battle at Garden's Gate

The Gretas have something special. You can see it with the naked eye. You can hear it with the naked ear.
They’re still missing the masterpieces, the epoch-making songs (I hope this new album contains some already). But the attitude is just right, perfect.
I suggest you check out a couple of their concerts on YouTube: they let themselves go, stretch the tracks to infinity, get caught up by the gods of rock, improvise, look at each other, beat the drums, and sing with abandon.
I’m with them.

Franco Battiato La voce del padrone

Your phrase "...maestro (how he would hate to read this epithet)..." is emblematic of how a religious passion for someone can make one blind. In my opinion, this character is instead a glaring and proven case of unrestrained and unjustified narcissism. A skilled songwriter and lyricist, among other things, who allows himself to circulate, among other things, symphonies and amusing covers in maccheronic English, blinded by ambition and ego... oh my, what a shame!

Wishbone Ash Live Dates

I remember it not being very invigorating as an album, having seen them live with a completely different energy. So far, I've avoided buying it... maybe one day if I find it at a great price, I'll consider it.
