I saw it as soon as it came out. It’s not too bad, but there are choices that make it clearly inferior to Carpenter's masterpiece: the actor playing Michael Myers is too big; he should be playing Jason Voorhees, not Michael Myers!! Also, as you mentioned, Michael has been portrayed as too violent, while Carpenter depicted him as a crazy person who carefully plans his moves (watch the original to understand what I mean). However, I have to say that in the end it was entertaining...
