Oasis Dig Out Your Soul

No, we’re not there yet.. this is a great album, very mature, skillfully crafted, with appreciable insights... there’s some filler (like in 99% of current CDs), that’s obvious, but there’s a clear desire to do something different, and it seems to me that the result is quite respectable. Of course, all opinions deserve a place... and critiques (civil and constructive like yours) can only help a band grow.

It’s true that perhaps two of the last three songs represent a small step back compared to the more inspired first part of the album, but I don’t agree with the evaluation of "Soldier On," a perfect track to close the album, free from any Britpop temptation, lazy and hypnotic, whose inclusion was suggested by the excellent Coral.

Nice album, with robust rock, psychedelic veins, and bluesy shades, an absolutely convincing sound blend; there's little to do with Britpop here, there's nothing fake about it... to define "boring" Soldier On, an enchanting and hypnotic piece, is simply insane... Aint Got Nothing, if it had been written by any of the bands with The in front that are so popular, would have been touted as a great piece; here it passes as a filler or little more... Falling Down is intense and touching; at the limit, it can be likened to Setting Sun by the Chemical Brothers with its splash of electronics, but certainly not to Within Without You... and then nothing new regarding the arrangements, which are decidedly more refined and attentive to detail? I understand that everyone has their own opinions, but perhaps a bit more tranquility would be necessary, no offense intended! Just look at the review by Ondarock: it speaks of "extremely reasoned construction" of the songs, "writing much more elegant and rich" than in the past... of "greater maturity," of "romanticism never sugary"... are you sure you don't want to share these assessments and give Caesar what belongs to Caesar?

Well, you can think about it as you like, but this is an album that has very little to do with Britpop; rather, it nearly definitively severs the umbilical cord that still tied Oasis to that world, retracing the partially experimental path embarked upon and then, alas, abandoned with the decent yet underrated Standing on the Shoulder... There are melodic openings where you wouldn't expect them, engaging grooves like in the sexy The Turning, melancholic and intense ballads like I'm Outta Time and Falling Down, the Eastern twist of To Be Where There's Life, the hypnotic Soldier On, and High Horse Lady, with its seductive rhythm... That's good; even the detractors will be surprised and, slowly, will appreciate (if they're not intellectually dishonest) a beautiful psychedelic rock album that stands out for the attention and care shown in the arrangements, unmatched in other Oasis records. The reviews from Kalporz and Rumore (not kind to the Gallagher brothers in the past) testify, if further evidence was needed, to the excellent work done.

In agreement with Alessio, a bland, boring, and self-celebratory album, not even one song able to rise to the role of a potential anthem, as others have been in the past after just a couple of listens, unrecognizable alas after the superb Senza Peso, what a sadness!!!

an album that is markedly inferior to the first, at times unbearable, one good song out of 14 is really too little

For now, I can only say that I don’t mind Golden Skans at all; in fact, it's really appealing. I reserve the right to give a more accurate judgment on the rest.
