American Psycho tells the tale of a yuppie serial killer in 1980s Manhattan, who is strikingly handsome (unless you find the meticulous descriptions of the protagonist's perverse and ruthless tortures disturbing), but personally, I prefer Lunar Park, which to me is his greatest masterpiece (brilliant: it starts as an autobiographical novel and transforms into a supernatural horror!).

And why would BWP be a scam/sneaky move?

The title is ridiculous, but the film is remarkable; it's also one of the very rare good performances by Reeves.

Seen at the Independent last year: I didn't know them, they're good, but they didn't particularly impress me.

I actually liked it and I didn't notice the lack of spontaneity at all; maybe the plot is a bit predictable, but overall it’s a really well-made horror, nasty, fast-paced, and engaging. The director is skilled and has his own style (Nameless and Darkness were excellent), we need more horrors like this nowadays (for the record: they’re already preparing a remake in the USA). And I totally disagree with calling Blair Witch Project a piece of junk!

@desade: <<"American Psycho" perfectly defined the neuroses of the average American>> and do you think Bateman's neuroses are the typical ones of the average American??? I would say rather that (the book) is one of the most effective descriptions of homicidal madness and mental dissociation I've ever read. The movie is just awful, 100% useless, I even went to see it in the cinema back then... practically the only scene faithfully recreated is the one that Psycho mentioned.

Beautiful, but for me the first Terminator is unbeatable; in those years Cameron was in a state of grace, in 1984 Terminator was released and just two years later that masterpiece which is Aliens.

How are the other films based on Ellis's work? I only know the pointless American Psycho, which is definitely insignificant compared to the novel (which is something truly mind-blowing). Instead, I would really like to see a nice adaptation of Lunar Park.

Italy doesn’t exist? I would say it never really has… we are a collection of small, vastly different nations that were unified by force; the process of unification was imposed, it certainly didn’t start from the people. And the widespread lack of a sense of national unity (but also of the very notion of the State) is a direct consequence of this. Regarding the film: I was afraid they would turn it into a kind of grim fiction, instead it turned out to be a great film, in some ways even better than the book (which is incredibly interesting and deeply inspired, but has a few sections that drag on a bit too much).

compared to this, even the latest NIN seems like a masterpiece
