Take Daft Punk, blend them well with Justice and the Prodigy, then add a touch of Bloc Party, and finally garnish it all with a rock voice that at times recalls Pelle Almqvist (the Hives) and the dish is ready!
Get ready to enjoy a hit like "We are rockstar" where voice and synth chase and intertwine relentlessly until they culminate into the pounding riff that supports the entire structure of the track.
The feast continues with a bit of healthy electro-clash that, at first glance, seems to have a typical pop approach, reminding us of the golden years of the Human League, fully hits us with arrangements that are always original and never intrusive.
An example? Try listening to the pseudo-mandolins in the chorus of "Dawn of the dead".
To keep us from being left dry-mouthed, Dioyy give us techno rave gems ("Attack of the 60ft Lesbian Octopus") and electro rock anthems complete with four-on-the-floor beats and metallic vocal filters in the style of Yellow Magic Orchestra (Doomed now).
They show us they can stray from the classic pop structure with the track "Weird science", where the band's funk and rock influences combine to create a track of healthy electro-funk that's all the rage; if you weren't told who it was, you might even think there was a beautiful bonus track on Daft Punk's Discovery that you missed.
And here comes dessert: the controversial choice to end an album with the band's debut single ("Epic last song") ...echoes of romantic brit-pop blend with a soft electronic arrangement creating a balanced alchemy that is never intrusive and conveys a vague sense of melancholy for the end of a truly well-conceived album.
To be served at high volume.
