In the 1983 elections, riding on the wave of the Falklands success that fueled British national pride, she triumphantly won her second term. On October 12, 1984, the IRA detonated a bomb at the Grand Hotel in Brighton, England, where the Conservative Party conference was taking place. The attack, which claimed the lives of five people, missed its target: Margaret Thatcher, who just hours after the dramatic event refused to back down, demonstrating all her grit and resolve (not for nothing was she nicknamed the Iron Lady) by addressing the conference.
Her second term pushed the accelerator for reforms, leading to one of the most significant turns in Western economic history: the victory of the private sector over the public, of individualism over trade unionism, of meritocracy over egalitarianism. When she started her work, she was alone against everyone.
She initiated a process of privatizations, later imitated worldwide, and for this, she was subjected to general ridicule by the prevailing leftist culture.
She fought her historic battle against the miners' union to rein in the power of the Trade Unions, and for that, she was vilified as the number one enemy of the working classes.
When she decided to sell all publicly owned housing to their respective tenants, she was denounced for squandering the national wealth.

Winter 78-79, piles of garbage overflow on the streets, electricity rationed three days a week, the workweek reduced to three days, England in debt to the International Monetary Fund, the English seem resigned to remain "the sick man of Europe."
June 1979, Margaret Thatcher wins the elections by a margin of 43 seats and declares ecumenically: "Where there is discord, may I bring harmony; where there is despair, may I bring hope." The first three years are disastrous—the English GDP collapses by 11%, the country is still devastated, socially conflicted, but in April 1982 the unthinkable happens when an Argentine military detachment lands on the Falkland Islands, easily overwhelming the symbolic presence of 16 Royal Marines tasked with defending one of the relics of the colonial empire of the kingdom.
This undeclared war lasted 72 days and caused about 1000 deaths (236 English and 655 Argentinians), many of whom were innocent conscripts thrown into the battle by the Argentine junta. The war had a cost of at least 2 billion dollars. Politically, this very war bolstered Margaret Thatcher's re-election and led to the downfall of Leopoldo Galtieri, who was subsequently forced to resign, a first step on the road to restoring democracy in Argentina. Margaret Thatcher recalls in her memoirs: "Those who are at war must not be distracted by diplomatic complications; they must overcome them with iron will." Thus attributing to herself the success over the bureaucratic hurdles that the foreign office, much more cautious than she was, constantly provided.

Her journey in the British right, within the Conservative Party's historic Tories, saw her elected to the House of Commons in Westminster for Finchley, a district north of London, in 1959. She aimed to climb the party hierarchies during the years of opposition from 1964 to 1970 (under the Labour government with Wilson as Prime Minister). In 1970, she achieved public recognition by becoming Minister of Education in Heath's Conservative government, earning her the somewhat unflattering nickname of "Milk Snatcher" due to cuts to milk rations for nursery schools.
From 1974 to 1979, the Labour Party once again governed Britain, first with Wilson and then Callaghan, occupying 10 Downing Street during years marked by economic recession, fierce trade unionism, social unrest, inflation at a stable double-digit rate, and soaring unemployment. In 1976, the country faced a sort of virtual bankruptcy, as a collapse in the value of the pound led the government to seek a loan from the International Monetary Fund against heavy guarantees.
Meanwhile, in 1975, Margaret rose to the position of party leader in the Conservative Party, becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons and consequently a candidate for Prime Minister in the May 1979 elections.

No, Odra, I explained myself poorly obviously. So far, I've only read Enk's reviews, and I like his tastes and style; I've also seen his way of carrying out "reprisals" for free (on the forum I set up). I'm not saying that it's always right, nor am I encouraging him to insult everyone and everything, but at least he's authentic. I like that. He puts himself out there, annoys a certain number of people, and he couldn’t care less, unlike many others who manage to be "mean" (and much meaner than Enk, let's acknowledge it) behind anonymity, but with their "official" nick, they would never dream of exposing themselves. I know I contradict myself a lot; I've known that for years... but I like Enk.
