the most scandalous review I've read so far :) but what are you talking about????? and then you only reviewed one piece! and then... mha :)hihih

Well, all my references came from "Michael Romeo playing in Symphony X." The fact that he can mimic Malmsteen doesn't necessarily mean he plays that way on his albums. If he had wanted to imitate Malmsteen, he would have written 10 albums like that. He probably learned to play guitar by imitating Malmsteen, but then he stopped :) That doesn’t mean being a clone. It's a bit like saying that Nuno Bettencourt imitates (and is a clone of) Van Halen.
And anyway, this "Malmsteen-esque" thing doesn't come through in the SymX albums; otherwise, I wouldn't listen to them! If you want to take his solo experiment, I can only agree with you, hoping it doesn't happen again.
I've seen the videos, and I reiterate! He can do those things, but he doesn't stop there...

Out of curiosity, have you listened to the album? Maybe you confused Vinnie Moore with Romeo. It’s Moore who possibly imitates Malmsteen, but if you listen to Symphony X, I don’t think they have anything to do with it. Perhaps Romeo's solo album is like that; maybe some riffs from "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" bring back certain classical atmospheres, but certainly not The Odyssey! And then, I reiterate, it's reductive to frame everything as imitation. But that’s another conversation...

Your judgment surely comes from a superficial listening of the band! Associating the "classical" references that appear in their music with Malmsteen is really quite reductive! Guitar-wise, it has nothing to do with it...
Symphony X V - The new mythology suite
Voto:
The album is magnificent and deeply meaningful! Panzer highlights, with a bit of fanaticism, the inconceivable(!?) riffs of Romeo and the skill of the band members (which is beyond question :). Even though this is true, the significance of this CONCEPT album goes far beyond just the talent that may appear if one is not familiar with the band. The Symphony X speak, in a mythological sense, about the history that stretches from before the fall of Atlantis to the present day, passing through Egypt, and about the present day (understood in a general sense) doesn’t exactly cast a bright light (absence of light, to say). In the end, there are subtle references (if I understood correctly) to today’s myths/beliefs ("conditioned to fear/a voice that we hear/calling the end of days") and then hopes for a rebirth with the last piece ("Can we change?"). The content is all there, in this case even better than the music, mixed between mythology and concepts to express! IMHO the gem is Egypt. And let’s not just celebrate the skill of the bands :) Let’s celebrate the beauty of the songs!

Lucky you! You have no idea what I would give to see them! I hope they come to Italy with the next tour. By the way, the new album is coming out soon.

You can say a lot about this album, but you can't say it's ordinary! Perhaps it’s the only one (maybe there’s another) that is truly crafted and played with patience! Ordinary, no, definitely not!

There are two beautiful songs that are worth the album (and they are calm): Accolade II and Awakenings! Legendaryyy

for me, on the other hand, it is the worst... it's not listenable. Beyond the band, it then depends on the genres that one likes.
