I saw it yesterday, in English with Italian subtitles, and I was also taken aback by the fact that they only translated the first verse of each song. Why?
As for the movie, I found it enjoyable.
Honestly, I didn't know what to expect (I didn't even know it was a musical!) and I'm not even a Beatles aficionado (I only know the essentials), so my judgment comes from an "ignorant" perspective: I really liked certain visual ideas (especially the scene with the strawberries, the bowling, and the barracks…), narrative ones (the way they connect distant scenes through music is genius), and of course the musical aspects, although I must admit not all the songs were performed with the same quality by the actors.
But does Bono really have such a hoarse voice?
P.S. did you know that Evan Rachel Wood is the one from the Wake Me Up When September Ends video...?
P.S.2 the actor who plays Max looks just like Sawyer from Lost.
