Mariottide is a genius.

Despite being just a debut album, "Tristezza A Palate" sounds like the album at the peak of an artist's career, the masterpiece, the pinnacle where one stops to avoid the risk of falling lower.

Unforgettable melodies, profound and sincere lyrics ("...I called you and you answered 'my number is different'", from the title track), an extraordinary and unique voice, highlighted by an excellent production capable of making Our artist's incredible vocals shine at their best, now with an explosive accordion riff (an instrument much loved by Mariottide), now with a particular display of the keyboardist's technique.
"Tristezza A Palate" is one of those albums capable of overwhelming us and overturning our mood: it moves from the oppressive melancholy of "Tristezza A Palate" to the uncontainable joy of "Mariottide Canta Shakira", returning to the heart-wrenching "Allegria Vattene Via" and finally being crushed by the angry rage of "Botte".

At the end of the journey, one is exhausted, but happy. It finally seems that a modern heir to Italian singer-songwriter music has been found, capable of bringing the genre back to the ancient glory it no longer boasts, a worthy successor to the likes of De Gregori, Guccini, Gaetano, and perhaps, in the future, even capable of surpassing them.

Absolute masterpiece.
