@primiballi: definitely no longer a kid, having been born when Pink Floyd had just released Atom Heart Mother! "Ippopotami" is obviously not very recent, indeed, but by establishing a hypothetical/ideal dividing line that I find significant with respect to "Il grande sogno," it belongs to the second half of Vecchioni's career, which I think was the subject of your question to Iside.

Elisir is undoubtedly one of Vecchioni's best works, inspired and well-produced. I want to chime in on the discussion about Vecchioni's more recent phase, which I have followed, noting that he is an artist with fluctuating output—capable of truly beautiful albums like "Il lanciatore di coltelli" (which I would like to review soon) or "Il cielo capovolto," but also of some really uninspired works like "Rotary Club of malindi" or the dreadful "Ippopotami." There is so much to say about Vecchioni.

I haven't read the review, it's too long for an album I don't like and that I consider the beginning of the end for U2. Sure, not commercially, but that's another story. A couple of songs are nice and interesting, but they drown in the dullness of the rest of the album. Later, even worse things will come, but that doesn't make me miss a tired work like Zooropa.

It is indeed true that too many artists have to die to be (re)considered, to see their works reissued. It happened to Giuni Russo, and now it will probably happen to Lauzi, to have a very partial and belated compensation for the ostracism faced during their lives. We are left to say through gritted teeth, "better late than never."
Pink Floyd Meddle

Meddle is an important album because it effectively completes the transition from Barrett's psychedelia to the new identity of the band, harnessing years of experimentation in a record that takes up the "scheme" outlined in "Atom Heart Mother," but finalizes it in a much more effective way. The next step will be the dark side of the moon, but Meddle is its essential premise. Echoes alone would be worth 5 stars, even 6, but a couple of minor tracks (San Tropez, Seamus) keep it just shy of masterpiece status.

I would say that all in all, considering the age of the tapes, the audio quality is nothing short of miraculous. And the depth of the performance goes well beyond a few technical flaws which, I repeat, under the circumstances are completely understandable. The live performance reproduced here, moreover, I must say, literally eclipses the studio version, which inevitably suffered from the duration limits imposed by the 33 RPM format. It was precisely due to those limits that "What Shall We Do Now" was excluded, and in general here the music has more space to develop properly, aligning more with the nature of the band, which has never been comfortable in confined spaces.
