Yes, "excellent craft" seems like a great definition for that album; on the other hand, Guccini himself admits to scraping the bottom of the inspiration barrel lately. Perhaps he feels more comfortable as a writer... or at least that's the impression.

Really beautiful album, although I always prefer, to stay in the same era, Madame Bovary; but indeed from here on Guccini will produce albums all less important, inspired, and homogeneous than this one.

A remark on Avati's endings, which like vellutogrigio in his gothic works are never optimistic and sunny. But this has the effect, and Avati certainly knows this well, of making the film even more unsettling, leaving the viewer disturbed rather than uplifted by the happy ending.

Great movie. I’ve been waiting since the time of the arcane enchanter (when is the DVD coming out?) for Pupi Avati's return to the gothic, and I wasn’t disappointed. And finally, a Morante in a role different from the one she's been trapped in forever.
