This Ruggeri who imitates French singers has never impressed me; I’ve always preferred his rock attempts much more (he’s never been punk). The work in question bored me quite a bit, even though, as you say, he is one of the best authors we have in Italy. However, I don’t think he’s underrated.

I liked Ruggeri when he was a rocker, then his love for French music caught me off guard a bit, but I agree with you when you say "one of the greatest authors" underestimated, though I really don't think so.....
