Brian Wilson Smile
Voto:
premise: I love Brian Wilson; even just his human story gives me chills (when I think of 'til I die', a step before the abyss... 'pretty soon I'll be blown away'... Christ); for this reason, even before he announced his intention to take 'smile' back in hand, I had already 'stitched' a painstakingly crafted apocryphal version following advice from some websites; well, I am really happy that Brian has released this album, I hope it has silenced some of his demons... this album is certainly, in terms of sound and production, more 'coherent,' uniform; this seems to me the strong point of this version compared to my 'apocryphal' one; that said, I certainly prefer his old voice (whatever), then the old version of 'surf's up' that I have, the one released I can't remember on which LP, remains one of my all-time favorite songs; even just for this, I consider the 'new' smile inferior, but I'm super happy it's out there...

it's a shame that Lisa Lopes maybe drove too fast... (well, a bit mean as a joke, I admit, maybe someone else was driving or others crashed into her... god forgive me, i'm drunk)

Consistent with his political vision, characterized by a deep respect for figures like Margaret Thatcher, he decided to pursue his more intellectual side (after all, he was the only one wearing glasses...) by diving into politics.

beautiful, beautiful that piece yes... well, I also liked the duet with Brian Adams... anyway, 'holler' über alles, the best track by the Spice...

And, to be precise, when I spoke of 'education,' I believe the first step in it would be to dismantle from people's minds that when faced with a contemporary painting, one must ask (first of all or entirely): 'what does it mean???'

It may seem contradictory, but I completely agree with the second part of the post regarding the pedantry of critics (and professors) who insist that one must ALWAYS study in order to enjoy art; I think of Burri, who never spoke or explained his art, which I instinctively liked without 'wanting' meanings... that said: maybe it's because I have never been deeply captivated by Picasso’s work (sure, I've seen very little in person, but that little didn’t impress me, even though I believe I was quite 'open' at the time), but I think Picasso is one of those artists whose work can be appreciated much more when contextualized historically (seeing 'Guernica' without knowing anything about Franco's Spain feels quite limiting) and by appreciating the evolution of the languages - yes, you're right about the levels of communication; it might be purely a personal thing, but I believe Picasso is one of those cases where 'digging' towards the next level is definitely worthwhile...

mmm... maybe I was a bit vague... well, I certainly didn't mean to suggest that Picasso painted consciously to entertain elite critics while despising the masses... I mentioned Picasso simply as an example of an artist whose work is TODAY almost universally regarded as valuable, sometimes fundamental, by the majority of people who are interested in art (at least that's the feeling, I certainly don't have any statistical data at hand, unfortunately...) while (still just a feeling...) the masses often fail to appreciate its beauty or interest; in fact, in these cases, I believe it's more a matter of 'education,' 'schooling,' in the sense of deepening the artistic experience, than differing ideas about 'beauty'...

I came too... but there's no 'holler' on this album! That track is a true masterpiece, I swear!
